Getting started with digital nail planning is easier than you think — and way more fun once you try it! Here’s what you need:
A device – Most nail techs use an iPad, but any tablet that supports digital art apps. Some ever like to use note taking apps for simpler more sketch style designs.
A stylus – Like the Apple Pencil or any compatible pen for drawing and sketching.
Digital nail templates – That’s where I come in! My templates give you the shapes, layouts, and creative structure to plan full sets, collections, or freestyle designs without the stress of starting from scratch.
Your fave planning app – I personally recommend Procreate. Some people also like Goodnotes & Infinite Painter.
Once you download your templates, you can start sketching designs, planning collections, and even showing clients visual concepts before you touch a nail.
And if you're feeling stuck, check out my blog, I’ve got tutorials and tips to guide you through it step by step.
Yes! Apps like Procreate, Procreate Pocket, Adobe Fresco, and Infinite Painter all are designed for creative drawing and digital art.
Apps like GoodNotes, Notability & One Note are note-taking apps (not art-focused) so there are creative limitations when it comes to layering, blending, or creating detailed designs.
If you're using other drawing apps not listed here, you're totally free to explore if you feel confident learning them on your own or from other YouTube tutorials.
It's actually very easy to learn! I highly suggest you visit my blog and join my newsletter on the home page for tips and tutorials.
Procreate is simply a series of layers & rules. The layers work like layers of gel on a nail, whatever is on top is most visible.
Here a 3 basic rules to get you started.
Rule #1: Once you import your nail template, set the layer to Reference so Procreate can read it.
Rule #2: Always add new elements on new layers, that way if you want to change something you dont have to undo or start over.
Rule 3: Use clipping mask to keep everything neat!

While Procreate is exclusive to Apple products, you can actually use any tablet and digital art app that includes 3 things (most do).
The app allows you to import photos and PDFs
The app has layers.
The app allows you to set a layer to Reference.
If your art app of choice can do those three things, congrats :) You can digitally plan your nail art.
Yes! If you're using iPhone, you'll want to download Procreate Pocket, its exactly like Procreate but condensed.
You'll need a stylus for phone, you can get them at your local dollar store, Walmart or on Amazon.
If you're using another smart phone, look for a digital art app in its app store and make sure that app can do 3 things;
The app allows you to import photos and PDFs
The app has layers.
The app allows you to set a layer to Reference.
If it can do that, you can use it to digitally plan nail art. Once again, you'll need a stylus for phone, you can get them at your local dollar store, Walmart or on Amazon.
